Wallets with more than 32 ETHUSD reach ATH

Data from Arcane Research and Nansen AI shows that Ethereum wallets with at least 32 ETH, the amount required for ETH 2.0 staking, have grown by 13% this year. The number of Ethereum wallets containing 32 or more ETH has hit an all-time high. This is the amount needed to stake a validator node under the proposed ETH 2.0 upgrade. The upgrade, which may come later this year, will revamp Ethereum’s design and make the consensus switch to proof of stake, shedding the proof-of-work algorithm that Bitcoin uses.

Metamask Reaches One Million Users

The ethereum browser wallet Metamask has surpassed one million users of its Google Chrome extension. Four years after launch this milestone comes as ethereum transactions see a spike, doubling in less than a month from 400,000 to now 800,000 transactions a day, the highest of any top blockchain. Gas usage has also spiked to its highest level since September, while fees remain very low at less than five cent for a fast transaction of under two minutes.

Value locked into DeFi protocols hits $1 billion

The total amount of money locked into decentralized finance (DeFi) applications and protocols has crossed a milestone of $1 billion. There has been a growth 50% since the start of this year as the amount locked was $670.77 million as of Dec. 31, 2019, according to DeFi Pulse. The current locked value stands at around $1.01 billion. Maker, the Ethereum-based lending protocol, remains the leader in the space with nearly 59% dominance. The amount of funds locked in Maker is now worth over $601 million.

Binance Will Support Newly Announced Ethereum Muir Glacier Upgrade

Binance supports the upcoming network expansion of the ETH Muir glacier. On Nov. 22, Ethereum developer James Hancock described in a proposal, that the Muir Glacier upgrade is expected to be activated on the mainnet on Jan. 1, 2020 at block 9,200,000.
Therefore, ETH deposits and withdrawals on Binance will be suspended due to the update. ETH trading will not be affected during the upgrade.

Node operators and miners who missed the Istanbul upgrade and are not yet part of the current Ethereum chain are advised to update their client to Muir Glacier as soon as possible. According to an official announcement by the Ethereum Foundation, the nodes should have been updated before 30 December 2019.

At the moment (last 24h), according to Ethernodes, 72% of the clients seen on the Ethereum network (last 24h) are ready and synced.

Google suspends MetaMask from Play Store

After the temporary bans of Youtube videos and channels (YouTube has already lifted the crypto video ban), Google has now suspended MetaMask’s Android client from its App Store. This was announced by MetaMask according to its own information via its Twitter account. MetaMask’s Android client was apparently suspended “last week”, with Google citing its policy of banning mobile mining apps from its App Store.

MetaMask, an Ethereum browser extension, does not offer any mining activities. MetaMask has an estimated quarter of a million active users per month. Whether MetaMask will be available again in the next few days is not yet clear.
